About Us

The first thing to know about T3 Hair Preservation is that Dr. Michael Beckenstein, a board-certified plastic surgeon, established the practice to personally provide hair loss treatments in Birmingham to people from Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and throughout Alabama. Unlike other hair restoration practices where you may see a different provider at each appointment, at T3, our patients know they’ll see Dr. Beckenstein for every treatment session.

A Focus on Hair Preservation

Research involving the causes of hair loss is dynamic, and Dr. Beckenstein believes that treatments that preserve hair growth before significant hair loss are more effective than ever. We take a medically sound, scientific approach and employ treatments that are supported by clinical studies.

At T3, men and women in the earliest stages of hair loss can choose from a variety of hair preservation therapies, such as:

What sets us apart from other hair restoration practices in Birmingham and throughout Alabama is the personalized treatment plans created by Dr. Beckenstein for each patient.

Hair Preservation & Restoration by Age

Whatever your age, Dr. Beckenstein’s comprehensive hair loss evaluation starts with a thorough assessment of your condition, including a physical examination, lab work, computer analysis, and genetic testing. These are basic treatment trends for various age groups in both men and women.

Ages 16-20

In this age range, nonsurgical hair preservation therapies are recommended. Hair transplantation is rarely recommended. Therapeutic treatments may include compounded topical or oral medications, which can help restore healthy hair growth. Other treatments include low-level laser therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. Hormonal manipulators cannot be used on women in this age group.

Ages 20s & 30s

Nonsurgical therapies are usually recommended as initial treatments or to supplement hair replacement. Hair transplantation may be recommended if there is significant thinning resulting in major scalp exposure. Hair preservation must be used with hair replacement, as you must treat the remaining hairs to keep them where they are. Otherwise, that hair will be lost in time. Hormonal modulators are not recommended for women in this age group.

Ages 30s to 60s

The same treatment options as those identified for younger patients are all possible, along with micropigmentation, tissue expansion, scalp reduction surgery, or hairline lowering surgery. Hair transplant surgery combined with nonsurgical therapies is more common for older patients. Hormonal modulators may be utilized for more mature women.

“I’m 21 years old and was losing hair fast. I hated how I looked and did not want to take any medicine. When Dr. Beckenstein told me about the laser, I was excited. My hair loss has stopped, and I won’t need hair grafts now.”
